Mrs. Shannon Sedio
Mrs. Sedio has taught for 15 years in Pre-K – 2nd grade. She is returning for her 12th year at Royal Palm Academy, this being her 2nd year as one of our Kindergarten teachers. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Fredonia State University of New York and holds a dual teaching certification in both New York and Florida. Shannon was awarded and nationally recognized for three consecutive years in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” and was also nominated for Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award in 2010. In 2012 she was honored by the Naples Alliance for Children with the Apple Blossom Award, Teacher of the Year.
Miss Olivia Kinnear
Miss Kinnear returns for her 3rd year at Royal Palm Academy, this being her 2nd year as one of our Kindergarten teachers. Previously, she taught Pre-K4 in the morning and technology to grades 4th through 8th in the afternoon. Miss Kinnear graduated from North Park University in Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a minor in English and endorsements in English as a Second Language, Language Arts and Middle School. She holds a dual teaching certification in both Illinois and Florida.
Mrs. Erin Brady
Mrs. Brady is returning for her 10th year at RPA. She taught Kindergarten for three years, and this will be her 7th year teaching 1st grade. Erin will also continue as our Reading Coordinator for grades K – 2. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Fredonia State University in New York and her Master’s Degree in Literacy from Canisius College in New York.
Mrs. Jennifer Clarke
Mrs. Clarke is returning for her 7th year at RPA. She taught 1st grade for 5 years and this will be her 2nd year teaching 2nd grade. In addition, she coordinates our Charity for Change program and the After School Program. Jennifer is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Prior to joining us, she was a Camp Director at the YMCA for three years and assisted with fundraising events.
Mrs. Christine Theriault
Mrs. Theriault is returning for her 15th year at Royal Palm Academy as one of our Third Grade teachers. In addition, this will be her fourth year as one of our Cross Country coaches. Chrissy graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama where she earned a triple major in Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education K through 6th, and Special Education for mild learning and behavior disabilities.
Mrs. Johanna Myers
Mrs. Myers is returning for her 6th year at Royal Palm Academy as one of our Third Grade teachers. Johanna graduated in 2001 from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics. After graduating, she moved to Connecticut where she taught middle school math for four years. She then moved to Chicago in 2005 where she taught students with emotional disabilities.
Mrs. Carolyn Cofield
Mrs. Cofield received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Indiana University. She studied International Affairs and Economics with the American University in Brussels, Belgium. During her tenure in Belgium, she also taught K-5 French at the International School of Brussels. Mrs. Cofield earned her teacher certification and completed her French major requirements at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. After teaching Kindergarten Immersion French at Le Lycée Français de Chicago, she earned her Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in French Literature and Linguistics at Aurora University in Illinois. Mrs. Cofield is certified to teach K-12 Elementary Education as well as 6-12 Reading, Social Science, Political Science, and Geography. She comes to Royal Palm with 17 years of teaching experience.
Ms. Renee DiSerafino
Ms. DiSerafino was the first teacher hired at RPA when it was established in 1997, making this her 17th year with us. She previously taught 3rd grade and this will be her second year teaching 4th grade. Renee graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy College in PA with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Renee holds certification from New Jersey and Florida. She attended Catholic schools from elementary through college, and this year begins her 34th year of teaching in Catholic education. Renee taught 4th grade for 18 years in Newark, NJ. and during that time was named “Catholic Teacher of the Year.”
Miss Leslie Greene
Ms. Greene joined the RPA team in 2011 as a long term substitute, previously taught 2nd grade, and this will be her 2nd year teaching 5th grade. Ms. Greene was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, she attended Catholic school and is a graduate of the University of Dayton where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in fine art and education. She is certified to teach art, grades K-12, as well as elementary education, K-5. She began pursuing her Master’s Degree last summer in elementary education.
Mrs. Alexia Johnson
This is Mrs. Johnson’s third year teaching at Royal Palm Academy as one of our 5th grade teachers. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Johnson is working with the NCE on math curriculum. Prior to joining RPA, she taught 4th and 5th grade in the Lee County Schools System for seven years, where she also served as the advisor for the National Elementary Honors Society. Originally from Weston, Connecticut, Mrs. Johnson moved to Florida in 2003. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College in PA and received her Master’s Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University.
